Local Pastor and Businessman Killed in Senseless Act of Violence

MEQHELENG, FREE STATE – The community of Meqheleng is reeling in shock and grief after the tragic loss of Pastor Thembani Ncango, a well-respected local pastor and businessman.Pastor Ncango was shot by thieves while closing his shop in December 2024 and fought bravely for his life in hospitals in both Bethlehem and Ficksburg.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries in the second week of January 2025.The news of Pastor Ncango’s passing sent shockwaves through the community, with many describing him as a kind and gentle soul who was deeply committed to his faith and his community.”Pastor Ncango was a pillar of our community,” said a local resident. “He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was a source of inspiration and guidance to many.”The business community also paid tribute to Pastor Ncango, describing him as a stable and gentle character who was respected by all who knew him.
A memorial service was held at the Itekeng Disabled Centre hall in Meqheleng, Ficksburg, where community members, local pastors, and business leaders gathered to pay their last respects to Pastor Ncango.The service was a celebration of Pastor Ncango’s life and legacy, with many sharing stories and memories of his kindness, compassion, and dedication to his community.As the community comes to terms with the loss of Pastor Ncango, they are also calling for an end to the senseless violence that took his life.
“We urge the authorities to do everything in their power to bring those responsible for Pastor Ncango’s death to justice,” said a community leader. “We will not rest until our community is safe and free from violence.”
