Setsoto FM’s News Editor, Padi Masupe, is a household name in Ficksburg, Free State. Born and raised on Uitkyk farm, Masupe’s journey in broadcasting began with a humble start. After completing his matric at Mohaladitwe Secondary School in 2004, he enrolled at Maluti College (now Maluti TVET College) to study Public Administration, although he didn’t complete the course.
Masupe’s big break came in 2011 when he responded to an advert by Setsoto FM, seeking reporters and news presenters. He applied, was selected, and began his career as a reporter and news presenter. His dedication and talent soon earned him the role of Editor for the popular current affairs show, “Re le lata letailane.”
In 2013, Masupe took a brief hiatus from Setsoto FM to work as a reporter and cameraman for Phethoho News, under the leadership of Dr. David Mokotjo. However, his passion for broadcasting soon led him back to Setsoto FM, where he resumed his role as News Editor, presenter, and reporter.
Under the new leadership of Chairperson Mr. Pule Mothijoa and Mr. Thabiso Sibiya, Masupe’s responsibilities expanded to include capacity building and motivating the news team. He also began orienting learners from Limkokwing Media University in Maseru, Lesotho, providing them with practical experience to complement their theoretical knowledge. Many of these students have gone on to work in prominent radio and television stations in Lesotho, earning Masupe the pride of being their mentor.
Masupe’s philosophy is clear: “The main purpose of a news presenter is to change the lives of listeners through information and knowledge.” He has lived by these words, using his platform to address community challenges and provide solutions.
His highlights include covering elections, where he conducted outside broadcasts with local politicians and community members. Masupe remains committed to reporting, which he considers the heartbeat of his passion.
As he continues to excel in his role, Phethoho News wishes Padi Masupe all the best in his endeavors. His dedication to community development and broadcasting is an inspiration to many, and his legacy will undoubtedly continue to shape the media landscape in Ficksburg and beyond.
