The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has allocated a whopping R48 billion to institutions of higher learning for the 2025 academic year. This significant funding will support students at various universities and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.
According to Acting NSFAS CEO Waseem Carrim, R5.9 billion has already been disbursed to universities, representing about 15% of the allocation. Additionally, R751 million has been disbursed to TVET colleges.
This funding is part of NSFAS’ efforts to ensure that students from disadvantaged backgrounds have access to quality higher education. The scheme provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges.
