Today, Friday, May 16, 2025, the community of Meqheleng, Ficksburg, came together to stage a protest march, demanding answers from the local government on pressing issues affecting their lives. The march, led by Lekgetho Tseki of the Mkhondo we Sizwe Party under the Bring Back Township Glory organisation, saw a significant turnout from community members, organisations, and the business fraternity.
The protesters, carrying placards and banners, marched peacefully through the streets of Meqheleng, highlighting their grievances and calling for action from the authorities. The South African Police Service (SAPS) maintained a visible presence throughout the march, ensuring the safety and security of all participants.
The protesters’ demands were outlined in a memorandum of complaints, which was handed over to Executive Mayor Mrs. Seipati Mbewi, accompanied by Mr. Pakka Mavaleliso. The memorandum focused on key issues such as land allocation, job creation, and business opportunities, which the community feels have been neglected for far too long.
Mrs. Mbewi received the memorandum, and the community has given her a seven-day ultimatum to respond. The protesters dispersed peacefully, awaiting a response to their demands.
The Bring Back Township Glory organisation and the Mkhondo we Sizwe Party have vowed to continue mobilising the community and pushing for meaningful change.
