In a move that may have been anticipated by some because of the bad treatment he received from his counterparts within the congress movement Lekgetho Tseki, a selfless leader of the African National Congress (ANC), has announced his resignation from the party to join the MKP under the leadership of Jacob Zuma.
Tseki’s illustrious career in the ANC spans several decades, during which he served in various capacities, including as the treasurer of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in his province. He was also an active member of the Young Communist League of Sourh Africa in the Region of Thabo Mofutsanyana were he served as the District Secretary.
One of Tseki’s most notable achievements was founding the “Bring Back Township Glory” movement, which aimed to bring development to the Ficksburg Setsoto Local Municipality. As a member of the Young Communist League, he championed the “Back to School” campaign, demonstrating his commitment to education and community development.
Tseki’s activism has not been without its challenges. He was arrested several times for fighting for the rights of his community and was even labeled as one of the 20 “notorious” members by the ANC leadership, whose lives were threatened.
Despite these challenges, Tseki remained steadfast in his commitment to the progressive ideals of the ANC. His decision to join the MKP under Jacob Zuma’s leadership may be seen as a natural progression, given his history of activism and commitment to social justice.
Tseki’s international solidarity work is also noteworthy. In 2010, he was part of a delegation that met with the President of Palestine, and he later joined the march against Israel as a human shield in Gaza, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the cause of Palestinian self-determination.
As Tseki embarks on this new chapter in his political journey, his legacy as a selfless leader and champion of social justice is likely to endure.
