This past weekend brought distress to a grandmother in Zone 8, Meqheleng, Ficksburg — who could no longer remain silent about the troubling behavior of her grandson, Papiki.
The elderly woman, a known community elder, raised her voice in concern after her grandson spent the entire weekend in the company of several young girls who are said to have recently abandoned their newborn babies. The incident has raised serious questions about the level of guidance and responsibility among youth in the area.
According to the grandmother, Papiki has been showing worrying signs for months — reportedly smoking dagga and other drugs. His younger sister, a dedicated learner staying in the same household, shared that she is now suffering constant headaches and emotional distress due to her brother’s actions and drug use.
Matters escalated when local Parachute Patrollers were called in by concerned neighbours. Upon arrival, the patrollers strongly rebuked the irresponsible behaviour, warning all involved about the dangerous path they are treading — not only legally, but socially and spiritually.
“Our youth are lost. Drugs, girls, and baby dumping — this is not the Meqheleng we want!” – shouted a community member during the confrontation.
Phethoho News urges parents, guardians, and community structures to unite in restoring dignity and discipline among our youth.
