With the festive season well and truly gone, students are readying themselves for the beginning of the academic year.
On Monday 20 January 2024, Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae and officials from the provincial government held a meeting with the leadership of Motheo TVET College led by principal, Professor Dipiloane Phutsisi.
Premier Letsoha-Mathae said she had been inundated with calls from both students and parents who raised concerns about, among others, what they perceive to be a denial for them to study, the manner which they are treated and the reported poor attitude of some staff members.
“We are here because of the overwhelming complaints that we have received from the public. What we would like to know is what is the institution doing to assist the learners, particularly registration.
The one thing we do not want is opportunistic political formations to disrupt teaching because of the delays with registration. Therefore, we must ensure a smooth process of registration,” Premier Letsoha-Mathae said.
The Premier further called for engagement with parents of the students to iron issues that affect the students at the college.Another resolution was interaction with Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services SETA as well as other Sector Education and Training Authority (SETAs) with the view to assist in clearing historical debt of students who cannot afford to pay for their studies.
Premier Letsoha-Mathae addressed the youth who had been waiting outside the institution’s premises. She told them that, together with the college’s management, they agreed that instead of staying in the baking heat for hours, they should rather return to the college on Friday 24 January where those who have applied online, first time applicants as well as returning students will be attended to.
