The DA in Free State says Deputy President, David Mabuza, has failed to enforce the agreement concluded by Eskom and the Maluti-A-Phofung Municipality over multimillion rand electricity debt. The party says Mabuza has admitted that he has abandoned the deal after being unsuccessful to get the municipality to comply. Last year Mabuza announced the deal that would have seen Eskom taking over the billing and collection of revenue to assist the troubled municipality. The DA says the municipal electricity debt has now gone up to R7 billion. The Maluti-A-Phofung Municipality is among the most owing municipalities in the country. Free State DA member of legislature, Leona Kleynhans, says the party will put pressure on the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to persuade the Maluti-A-Phofung Municipality to comply in the interest of residents
