Setsoto FM, the Free State-based community radio station, has reached a remarkable milestone – 25 years of broadcasting to the people of the province. In a era where community radio stations are struggling to stay afloat, Setsoto FM has defied the odds and continued to thrive, providing a vital service to the community.According to Station Manager, Thabiso Sibiya, the station’s success can be attributed to the loyalty and support of its listeners. “We are grateful to our listeners who have stood by us through thick and thin,” Sibiya said. “Their support has been instrumental in our survival, and we appreciate their loyalty.”Sibiya also acknowledged the challenges faced by community radio stations in the Free State, where more than six stations have closed down due to non-compliance. “We have worked hard to ensure that we comply with all regulatory requirements, and our listeners have rewarded us with their loyalty.”Setsoto FM has been a beacon of hope for the community, providing a platform for local talent, news, and current affairs. The station has also played a crucial role in promoting local economic development, social cohesion, and good governance. But what’s more remarkable is that Setsoto FM has been a breeding ground for national radio talent. The station has produced renowned radio presenters who are currently hosting shows on Lesedi FM, including:- Palesa Chubisi- Ntsane Rantoa- Ponto wa Celebo”We are proud of our alumni who have gone on to make a name for themselves in the radio industry,” Sibiya said. “It’s a testament to the quality of training and experience that we provide to our presenters.”As part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations, Setsoto FM has acquired a brand-new outside broadcasting van, which will enable the station to broadcast live from anywhere in the province.”Our new outside broadcasting van is a game-changer for us,” Sibiya said. “It will allow us to take our broadcasts to the people, and provide live coverage of events and news from across the province.”The station will be hosting a series of events, including live broadcasts, music festivals, and community outreach programs, to celebrate its 25th anniversary.”We are excited to celebrate this milestone with our listeners,” Sibiya said. “We look forward to continuing to serve the community for many years to come.”Congratulations to Setsoto FM on this remarkable achievement!
